Catching up with New/Old Friends

So…

The other day, I was walking home from work.

yea…shocker…right?

I’ve changed my route slightly, to avoid the carnage that used to be my cathedral.  I sometimes wonder if they’ve cleared the ‘Earthly remains’ from their yard – yet I still can’t gather the courage to walk past the sight of the worst mass murder in recent Waukesha history.

If you have NO idea what I’m talking about – welcome to the T&T.  Trust me, it doesn’t always get this weird.

this is a ‘light’ day…

Here’s a little backstory for you…

I’ve taken to walking around the back of this school’s sports field.  Most people ’round these parts would call it a football field, (Wisconsin:  a beer state with a football problem), but as I don’t bleed Green & Gold during the fall/winter sports season, I’m just gonna call it an all-purpose ‘sweat till you melt’ field of athletic prowess.

My new favorite spot to stop and have a bit of fun is the outdoor play equipment behind the field-o-sweaty-dreams.

Play Equipment

Not because I’m entering my second childhood or anything – but I stop and bounce a bit on the very rubberized ground cover for no other reason besides:   IT’S SPRINGY!

I amuse easily…

Kids these days don’t appreciate that play equipment ‘back in the day’ was usually installed on nothing more than normal, everyday soil, packed rock hard by many, MANY feet.

I feel a curious desire to yell “Get off my LAWN’ right now…

After the brief bounce, I hop back on the (now very hard) sidewalk and continue making my way home.

Remember that ‘other day’ I mentioned at the beginning of the post?

I found something…disturbing…

Snoopy's head farter away

There’s a little white speck on the pavement.

Walking a bit closer, I found…to my horror:

Snoopy's head

SOMEONE DECAPITATED SNOOPY!

Charles Schwartz is rolling in his grave right now…ROLLING, I tell you!

I beat a hasty retreat from the site of yet another grizzly murder as fast as my legs could carry me (after I snapped the picture, of course!).  No way I wanted to be tied into the brutal slaying of a beloved cartoon character.

Is it too early to watch “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving?”  I love the bit when Snoopy tangled with the lawn chair…

As I’m walking down the street, all is serene.  I’m guessing nobody’s reported the horrific crime yet…but then it dawns on me.

Back at the playground.

Is it?

Let’s adjust the focus, here…

foot plastic plastic

Oh….crap….

plastic close in

He’s BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!

On one hand, I’m glad to see that he’s able to fend for himself, feed himself, and appears to be quite happy with his new life as a wild plastic shape-altering thingie…

They grow up so fast, don’t they?

But on the other hand…should I be concerned that he’s apparently turning cannibalistic?

Yet another post about little metal rings in interesting configurations…

The pliers have been HOT, and the creation process boiling over in my head.  The muses must have gotten a hold of some serious caffeine pills.

Nothing stronger, thanks.  I don’t think I could handle THIS…

Got the Mobyzan hearts all lined up on Etsy and ready to publish, both the tutorial and the finished forms…just waiting until November 1st to do so, so October isn’t so ‘listing heavy’ when it comes time to renew the things.

I also started playing with the weave used to make the dice again.  The first time I went ‘off the tutorial’ I created collars from a single strip of the weave.

These ones, in case you’ve forgotten…

Shippo Tsunagi Choker

And I have once again wandered afield with this weave to pair it with a different focal.

See – I wanted to see how Metal Designz does their kits.  If I was going to approach them on kitting out either the Dragon or the Mobyzan, I wanted to assure myself that what they were sending people was quality stuff.  So I bought a new tutorial I’d drooled over for a while called  Her Majesty’s quilt  and picked up a kit from Metal Designz.

All for research, donchaknow (at least, that’s how I justified the spending 😀 )

Nice kits, if I do say so – I’m happy they’re going to be putting together supplies for the Mobyzan.

The Her Majesty’s Quilt necklace, when constructed as written, however, needed a bit of a punch up, as I was slightly unimpressed at the length of chain winding around the form.

Enter the muses with the aforementioned caffeine pills…

Because the weave used in the collars and the capture of the crystal in HMQ are both square – I thought “Why not?” and mashed the two together.

Can my muses cook, or what???

If any of you want to rip this beauty off my neck…it’s up on Etsy here.

Earworm Alert

Dontcha just hate it when a song burrows its way into your head & is on playback ALL afternoon?

I just called myself a pagan on a blog comment…and immediately, this song queued up in the echoing cavern I sometimes call my inner mind.  It’s echoing weirdly in my head, but I’ll spare you the acoustics.

It’s a goofy little thing – I think I like this one just because, as the song goes on, the lead singer gets more and more intense.  He’s actually screaming the words by the end of it.

It’s pretty heavy metal, so those of you who dislike music played REALLY fast with heavy base overtones might want to keep the volume off.  What distinguishes this from other metal is – you can ACTUALLY understand what they’re singing, and none of the words are common 4 letter ones 😀

I guess I could actually be labeled a pagan by the greater Christian community, as I follow a (unnamed) faith other than theirs…I just don’t have a group to pal around with.

Sheesh…am I writing about Chainmaille AGAIN?

I really can’t help it…I’ve had some interesting things come off the pliers lately, and I’m gonna share…

Chainmaille Dragon Final 2

When I completed the dragon tutorial, a couple of people in my chainiac group on the evil Book of Faces asked if there’d be a kit coming for this one.  A kit, for those not in the know, is when a jump-ring supplier offers a packet of rings in counts and sizes that were specifically put together for the tutorial at hand.

Sooooo – I reached out to a couple of suppliers I know offer kits for tutorials they don’t own.  Sadly, the answer was no.  The dragon is simply too complex a build, requiring 7 different ring sizes, as well as scales, beads, and wire.

Damn.  But the answer got my blood flowing for having a tutorial written that someone WOULD kit out.  It’s great for the chainmaille community as a whole, as it allows cross-support between the vendors and the designers, and gives new enthusiasts the chance to build some really cool things with rings they KNOW will work.

Pile o failHalf my design work ends up in the ‘well, THAT didn’t work’ bucket, awaiting deconstruction.  Or a new idea…

So I banged out a new pretty – simple (for me) design, and sat down to write out the how-to.

I’m calling this one the Mobyzan Heart, as it’s a mix of byzantine chain segments interrupted with mobius balls.  Cute, in’nt it?

Mobyzan cover 3

I have a favorable response this time – Metal Designz will be kitting out my work this time 😀

YEA, ME!

Brain Wanderings

Just a couple of random thoughts here…

The powers that be are in rearrangement mode at work.  About half the office population are moving their desks, papers, and computers to new offices or cubicles.  Thankfully, I’m NOT one of the ‘lucky’ ones who get new digs…I just get to observe everyone packing up their offices and unpacking in a new location.

I hate moving with a passion.

Last week, when the big stuff got shuffled around, a metal desk or file cabinet or something was being rolled down the hallway, and it sounded like a slinky…which gives me the opportunity to share this!

You know how HARD it was to incorporate a slinky into a blog post???

Naturally, posting such a meme has had repercussions – I’ve been cursed with the earworm from hell ever since I typed the word slinky…and now, you will too.

You’re welcome… 😀

Over here in the ‘not singing about metal springs’ category…yesterday, on the walk home, I stopped for a photo shoot.  Not Earth-shattering, I know, but this was a weirder than normal even for me shoot, involving an unusual backdrop and a rather common-place item as the focal.

Yes, I’m being vague on purpose, as this is for an up-and-coming blog post once I get the photos out of my phone and into my computer…

The weird part?  There was a lady out walking her dog, and she’d taken a brief pause on the park bench in the same location.

So…I did something very odd and attention-getting IN FRONT OF A STRANGER.  This is soooooo NOT wallflower/blend into the background me I just had to share.

And you’ll get the rest of the story once I finish the pictures – so STAY TUNED.

Batman & Robin copy

Coloring Within the Lines

I’ve been busy with the little piece of demon-tech I call my phone.  I still maintain having a toler/hate relationship with the plastic bastard…but he does have a bit of charm.

It’s all in his lens.

The leaves are turning here in guitar-town.  I figured I’d share a bit of pretty with you guys today…

A color through the windscreen

My pictures are still ‘prune-y’

I manage to take a shot like this a couple of times a year.  There’s just something about the wooziness of water on the glass of the windshield of my  car that screams “YES” to my photographic eye.  I love the way the water wrinkles the shot.

A Rust and red leaves

Before you get the thought that everything is wet & gloomy, however…here’s another favorite of my settings.  The iron fence surrounding the big cemetery in town always provides an interesting foreground when fall colors come out.

A Black berries

Someone with more knowledge of plant life is gonna have to tell me what these berries are.  They’re pretty to look at, contrast nicely against the pink leaves, but I’ve no idea what they’re called…outside of photogenic…

a Tall grasses

The people who planned out the decorative elements of the Fox River Walkway loved this prairie grass – it’s everywhere.  It grows long and proud up here, and gives the walkway users a touch of separation between the walk and the downtown parking areas.  It also photographs nicely when backed by the sun.

A Through the Ring

Decorative iron is so much fun to use in photography.  This is also taken along the Fox River Walkway.

a heart in spiderweb

Am I the only one who see the heart in the middle of this spiderweb?  I’m guessing if the spider who wove this had more time, and good command of the English language, he’d have finished with with an “I” above the center, and “Flies” underneath.

Adventures in Goodwill

In search of the most eclectic wardrobe ever – the kids and I went to our local Goodwill last night.  I’ve been on the lookout for a spring/fall weight jacket, which is getting to be a rather pressing issue around here.  After all, it’s October in Wisconsin, and the early mornings are a bit … shall we say nippy? … to walk to work.  I’ve also been on the lookout for bedclothes, as what I’m currently wearing to sleep in is … well, let’s just say I’ve found my feet tangled in my sleep shorts in the morning on more than one occasion.

20171007_170209

These used to FIT!

With it getting cooler in the night as well as the morning, I’m gonna need more heavyweight jammy pants, too.  The sweat pants I was using are now doubling as a cover for my computer chair to protect it slightly against claws.

The fun part of a Goodwill adventure is always pawing through the racks….the entire store is an epic treasure hunt…especially the clothes.  Some stuff is outright adorable, and some is ‘I can’t believe someone actually WORE this out of the house!’-able.

Glassware is another place I love to search the racks…but really, the entire store, from apple figurines to zebra-print socks – is rummage-able.

So – yesterday.  Went to Goodwill.  And the winners are:

In the ‘Loud and Proud’ category:

Twister pants

Remember the game Twister?

In the “I can’t believe this exists” category:

Leather Pants

LEATHER pants in my size??

In the “I can’t believe I actually TRIED this on” category:

Rainbow Horror

WHAT am I doing????

In the “How did I live without these” category:

Halloween Socks

Orange and black striped Halloween socks!

And, yes, my goal was accomplished – I found 2 pair of jammy pants in patterns that fit my personal style, as well as this totally cool denim jacket.
